Hills discovery excursion
As a part of the Nyoongar Wellbeing and Sports program at Ashfield Primary School, we had an end of term cultural celebration to Hills Discovery Centre. The excursion aim was to recognise the contribution the students made to the program, and celebrate them for their commitment.
We did the Aboriginal Cultural tour which included language learning, food cooking and tasting, and learning about the surrounding bush area.
Noongarpedia is an internet based forum, much like Wikipedia. Noongarpedia is full of Noongar content, and Noongar Language with English translation. We were lucky enough to have an incursion lead by Project Officer and senior Noongar woman Ingrid Cumming. Our students contributed greatly by singing “Santa Claus is coming to town” and “Heads, shoulders, knees and toes” which can be viewed at https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/nys/Noongar_Christmas_Carols
This is our yearly Christmas concert with each class performing an item. Room 11 will be performing “Santa Claus is coming to town” in Noongar language translated by Ingrid Cumming. The guests of the Christmas concert will be welcomed to country by Ingrid Cumming.
The guests of the yearly awards will be welcomed by Ingrid Cumming. It will include the presentation of two awards donated by Ingrid Cumming. The awards are Ingrid Cumming Reconciliation Awards. These awards are presented to students who demonstrate a reconciliation spirit within the school community.
